Timber Properties Using Dielectric Constant (Paperback): Zakiah Ahmad, Rohana Hassan Timber Properties Using Dielectric Constant (Paperback)
Zakiah Ahmad, Rohana Hassan
R1,781 Discovery Miles 17 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Information on the properties of woods either the physical or the mechanical properties are important for construction and industrial purposes. There are two types of measurements in examining wood properties, namely destructive and non destructive. Mechanical properties of wood are mainly measured using destructive method such as bending test, tensile test, etc. Non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques applied in determining the properties of wood and wood product although valuable are still associated with great amount of uncertainties. The most common methods applied are the microwave, ultrasonic, impact and resistant method. The book reported the use of Parallel Plate Electrode System (PPES) and Capacitor Probe (C-Probe) system to evaluate the properties of wood by analysing the dielectric constant of the material. The PPES and C- Probe is also being applied as inspection techniques to locate damage and decay in timber members in order to maintain the structural performance.

Moisture Absorption Characteristics of Structural Adhesive (Paperback): Zakiah Ahmad Moisture Absorption Characteristics of Structural Adhesive (Paperback)
Zakiah Ahmad
R1,292 Discovery Miles 12 920 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The moisture absorption behavior of the structural adhesive is commonly analyzed by just describing the characteristics of the moisture uptake versus time without relating it with the established concept of Fickian behavior. Therefore the aim of this book is to serve as a guide for undergraduate student doing final year research project, postgraduate students and researchers who do not have formal course on Fick's theory in college. The examples given are based on the author's experienced in investigating the moisture uptake of polymer.

Timber Connections - Mortise and Tenon Structural Design (Paperback, 1st ed. 2023): Rohana Hassan, Azmi Ibrahim, Zakiah Ahmad Timber Connections - Mortise and Tenon Structural Design (Paperback, 1st ed. 2023)
Rohana Hassan, Azmi Ibrahim, Zakiah Ahmad
R1,336 R1,264 Discovery Miles 12 640 Save R72 (5%) Ships in 9 - 15 working days

This book describes the application of mathematical and fundamental theory as stated in the relevant standards, namely EYM and NDS. Timber is one of the important building materials in the field of engineering, other than concrete and steel. However, there is still a lot of unexplored knowledge about timber, including how timber connections are made. One of the main types of timber connection is mortise and tenon. Mortise and tenon are widely seen as one of the most important traditional timber structural joint. In order to understand the load-carrying capacity and performance of the structural mortise and tenon joint, the existing theoretical background of timber joint design is made as a reference. Current equations applicable in estimating the load-carrying capacity of timber joint uses the European Yield Model (EYM). Therefore, the main aim of this book is to share the basic design knowledge, inclusive of safety factor limitations (as engineering main factor) in structural design.
